Getting your home ready for winter dust free 2048x1407

Winter is coming – how to get your home ready

by Michael Sweet | 1800 CLEANER

This article is particularly useful for those who have dust allergies.

Winter is coming, and it’s time to prepare your home for the cold weather. As you will be spending more time indoors snuggling on the sofa watching Netflix, let’s make sure that your home is not only comfortable but also safe, clean and healthy.

With a little bit of your effort and a large amount of our help, we can create a cosy, dust-free and inviting space you’ll love spending time in during the colder months. Further and even more importantly, this will prevent health problems caused by dust and other indoor pollutants, irritants and contaminants that, when built up, can weigh heavily on our immune systems when we need them the most.

1. Clean your carpets

When was the last time that you cleaned your carpets? We clean carpets thoroughly with a powerful HEPA-Air industrial-grade vacuum cleaner. However, built-in grime and dried, soiled materials sometimes require more. And in such cases, we can shampoo your carpets clean too.

Anti-Bacterial-HEPA-filters

Anti-Bacterial HEPA filters clean the air as we clean the house.

2. Improve indoor air quality

Spending more time indoors during winter means ensuring that the air you breathe in is clean, healthy and toxin-free. Dust and other indoor pollutants can cause health problems such as allergies, asthma and respiratory issues. And we specialise in removing dust, especially the microscopic dust that escapes from the traditional cleaning approach.

3. Reduce clutter

Clutter means hidden dust and can make your home feel cramped and congested. It can also make it difficult to clean and dust properly. It also drains your energy and enthusiasm. Declutter your home by getting rid of things you don’t need and organising your belongings to make your space more functional and comfortable. And especially if you or a loved one suffer from dust allergies, give that dust nowhere to hide.

4. Keep your home clean

Dust can accumulate quickly in your home during the winter season. Our regular cleaners can help you maintain a clean and healthy home. Depending on your needs, we can organise a weekly or fortnight schedule.

Our expert recommendation is to set aside a whole day before the official onset of winter and let us do the hard work for you with one of our exceptional spring cleans. You can add window cleaning and carpet shampooing as you wish. We invite you to fill in the form and get a FREE quote.

Would you trust a cleaner who pays for fake reviews?

And how can you tell the difference?

I recently got a message from a swarmy-looking dude from an indeterminable geographical location offering me 5-star Google fake reviews for my cleaning business for $3 each. It took but a nanosecond to advise that this was unethical and wholly improper.

The review process is about establishing hard-fought and won customer trust through the arduous task of cleaning houses well and consistently. How dare a bot-boy come along and offer to trick customers into trusting a competitor with such questionable ethics?

And so I went and had a look and thought, how can you tell the difference?

All is now getting so compelling, and these bot farms can churn out innumerable 5-star Google Reviews with the press of a button. How very tempting. Spend the day cleaning a house to perfection, hoping to get a five-star review while risking a negative review or paying just three bucks to guarantee a 5-star review? You can have hundreds of them in a row without risking a single negative review. The real question is, why wouldn’t you?

My only answer is that it’s wrong, immoral and unethical.

And what about articles?

How could you know if, for example, these words you are reading now were not created by the massive electronic brain we know as ChatGPT?

At my insistence, our operations manager experimented with ChatGBT.  And, within 2.3 seconds, we produced an extremely compelling article that we internally debated adopting and putting on our blog. I am so happy that within our organisation, the light won out with protestations about ethics and energy.

Though I have compelling advice from a great friend and one of SEO’s greatest thinkers that ChatGPT articles are currently being seriously considered to generate content in many leading agencies, we decided firmly against it.

And so, after much pondering within the substantive limitations of a human mind, I have gotten to a place where I believe I can discern a bot review from a real one. And interestingly, the answer for me is beyond the mind and into the body, with the key word being to feel.

Bot reviews feel a little iffy

The bot fake reviews seem great on the surface and are well-written and articulated. But after a while, they feel a little two-dimensional. Flat even. Mimicking emotions but directly describing reality. And they never have a typo! They often run in waves, one after another and tend to be short. Monotonous. They are then interspersed often with a negative review that is clearly human, brimming with emotion.

Interestingly, the bot fake reviews often have funny names and do not have a depth of review history. And they usually have less than three reviews a piece. Most often, all three reviews, when you dig deeply, will be 5-star reviews. And the picture accompanying the name will often feel off and regularly is not that of an actual, “average” human being. Indeed this is the great thing about what I discovered through this process. Whilst the human mind can never now catch up with the exponential growth of AI, the human heart is exceptional. The body can feel with a wisdom that I don’t believe will ever be matched by physical wiring, circuitry, algorithms and electricity.

Go mankind

Can a robot give you the warm hug of a child? Or can a cyborg listen to your heartfelt musings with empathy and warmth, allowing you to feel heard and thereby heal? Can a robot clean your house with love? And can a bot write a review that puts you on the right path to finding an ethical cleaning company? A cleaner whose 100th clean will be as high in quality as their second? Can a computer and an algorithm write an article with the same quirky and dysfunctional depth as a human experiencing life through the ups and downs of living within a biological body? Can an electronic being have a soul?

One thing is for sure, they sure are getting good at mimicry. Scaringly so. But I assure you a bot did not write this article.

How often should I clean my house?

By Michael Sweet | 1800 CLEANER

As someone who has been cleaning houses professionally for over 35 years, I believe I have found the answer to this often-asked question.

And the answer is… it all depends.

I know that simple questions like this really demand a simple answer. Yet, this is one of those questions that really does depend on several factors. It’s like asking the shoe size of a human. Well, that depends on the particular human in question. This is a nuanced situation. Let’s look at the factors determining the answer for your particular circumstance.

The first thing to consider is the dust

If you have a lot of dust, you will invariably look to clean your house at least every week.

The problem is that the very act of cleaning does not necessarily get rid of the dust. In most cases, the majority of the very fine dust we disturb through the act of cleaning will actually just be frustratingly circulated as we clean. It floats above us as we disturb these weightless particles. In fact, the fine particles of dust can stay suspended mid-air for up to 5 days.

The second thing to consider is the level of clutter

More clutter means more hidden dust to leak out and frustrate cleaning efforts and probably more dissatisfaction with the cleanliness of your home in general. It also implies that the person living in the house is less concerned with order than one who has less clutter, therefore, requiring less cleaning to achieve at here again is once per week on average. But again, the results are a return of the dust within a few days.

The next factor to consider is the environment outside the house

And the ability of those external dust-oriented pollutants, pollens and exhaust fumes to enter the house either unwittingly through open windows or surreptitiously through the micro cracks in window and door frames.

The air quality outside of the home can be poor, especially for city dwellers and those living close to busy roads. In such situations, the best bet is to improve the air quality inside the home. And then to keep it sealed off from the outside air. Consider doing this depending on which way the wind blows relative to the primary source(s) of pollution.

The number (and size) of the inhabitants in the home relative to the size of the home is also important. As an extreme example, consider a one-bedroom apartment full of four big burly bodybuilders, creating considerably more dust per square metre than a mansion occupied by one little old lady. Charles Weschler claims that humans shed their entire layer of skin every 2-4 weeks at the rate of 0.0001-0.003 ounces of skin flakes per hour. This equates to around 35 kg over the average human lifetime. That’s roughly a full teaspoon of skin flakes every week, which is the favourite food of dust mites.

The dust mites do incredibly tiny poos. And this imperceptibly small process is a major contributing factor in the accumulation of household dust. Therefore, the more people in the home relative to the size of the home will dictate a more regular cleaning requirement.

The fourth is carpet versus floorboards.

Carpet is beautiful, don’t get me wrong. It releases countless microscopic fibres that contribute to the fine dust collecting in your home, and it is also the perfect place for microscopic irritants and pollutants to hide. Over time the fibres become virtual cities for dust mites and their imperceptibly small skin.

Less carpet means less cleaning. If out of sight means out of mind to you, then the carpet shouldn’t be a massive problem. Visually at least, carpet can also hide a lot of dust in many cleans. But those with dust allergies will feel it’s effects. It’s hard to get carpets really clean as dust and dust mites can hide in the pile.

Ultimately my favourite answer to the question is to do a big spring clean once yearly. The goal is to get all the fine particle dust out you can.

This way is less dust “leaking” out of the hidden corners making your regular cleaning schedule more efficacious.

Off the back of successfully doing a dust-reducing spring clean, I would say a good regular clean can be done once every two weeks. I would do a quick mini wet area wipe each alternating weekend.

The best part of this approach for me is that with a strategy to keep the dust away, the cleaning is both quicker and more effective, leading to a much cleaner house and much more free time to enjoy it.

barbecue grill cleaning vacuum non toxic products

Get your BBQ sparkling clean for summer

By Michael Sweet | 1800 CLEANER

With summer knocking on the door and Christmas celebrations coming up now is the perfect time to plan ahead and get your BBQ sparkling clean. Australian summers are the perfect time to crank out the BBQ. We love to cook up an outdoor feast for friends, family and neighbours. A good clean BBQ not only cooks better but is healthier. And it can help avoid food contamination as well as helping to make the food taste better.

It is one of the messiest, hardest and most dreaded cleaning jobs we face. And it also holds the potential to be one of the most satisfying. When it’s all nice and clean in the end it feels so worthwhile.

So here’s our step-by-step guide to getting your BBQ beautiful and clean without too much fuss.

Some of the tools you will need include;

  • Large Bucket with hot soapy water
  • Scrubbing Pad and/or steel wool
  • Hardwire brush with a long handle
  • Heavy-duty cleaning gloves
  • A few old cleaning rags
  • Possibly a vacuum cleaner
  • A full belly gives you plenty of elbow grease

Step 1 – Remove any excess food residue

This will have collected on BBQ plates and may have also gathered in the bottom tray, so remove these scraps before step 2. If it’s not too greasy you can get your vacuum cleaner to help you here and if you have a handheld vac, even better.

Step 2 – Degreasing

The key to degreasing is to turn the BBQ on to its highest temperature for around 5 minutes to burn off excess grease and then leave it to cool before wiping off excess grease with an old throwaway rag.

Step 3 – Soak the BBQ Grill

Put the grill grates into a hot mixture of soapy detergent and warm water for around 15 minutes to help soften the fats and sticky marinades etc before scrubbing hard with a wire brush. If it’s particularly filthy you may need to repeat this process with a fresh new bucket of water and do a second clean if you find the first one doesn’t quite hit the mark.

Step 4 – Scrub everything down

Once well soaked get the brush and scrub the excess fats and gunk away and for the fine tuning use steel wool and/or a scourer sponge. Be careful if your grates are porcelain as too harsh a brush can damage them. You may have to focus on the corners which will be the hardest part to get really clean.

Step 5 – Final wash

Once you’ve got everything as clean as you can start again with clean water and do a quick final clean of everything. Use clean cloths and a non-toxic cleaning product on the exterior. Microfibre cloths work best.

It’s a great idea to do this big clean twice a year; once heading into summer and once again at the end of summer before winter sees the BBQ action diminish.

Happy BBQing and have a good weekend.

family home healthy free of dust cleaner sydney

How I got my home healthy for my children

By Michael Sweet | 1800 CLEANER

As the big day approached for the arrival of my first baby girl, I was anxious to get the house exceedingly clean. I bought all the advertised products and got to work. I scrubbed the bathrooms and washed the kitchen. Finally, I vacuumed the carpets perfectly with my new and very expensive vacuum cleaner.

Things looked great, at least for a day or two.

But then I started to notice the dust returning, and before long, I ended up in an obsessive loop. The more I cleaned, the more I saw the dust. The more I noticed the dust, the more I cleaned. I couldn’t seem to get rid of it. Coupled with this frantic effort to get the house perfectly clean was an imminent father’s paranoia about all of the things that could harm my child. I was becoming obsessed with germs and asthma. And any of the myriad things that could go wrong when a newborn baby is subjected to the impure things of this world.

At the time, I had a lengthy career in the advertising industry. And so, I was well-versed in reading detailed research material to create advertising campaigns for my clients. I put this skill to work on my primal desire to protect my child from the microscopic monsters of my imagination. At first, this only made things worse. Shockingly, I discovered what a dust mite looks like under a microscope.

Additionally, I learned of the harmful ingredients that comprise dust particles – finally disgusted by the thought of mould spores, pollen and dust mite poop being inhaled into my yet-to-be-born baby’s infant lungs. Distraught, I searched everywhere for answers and found very few.

What was this?

Haplessly I found myself staring out of the crack of the balcony window after another sleepless night wondering what to do. I was on the brink of utter hopelessness. Early one morning as the sun slowly crested the horizon, there through a shaft of sunlight I saw them. Ordinarily indiscernible dust particles twinkling through the air. Countless numbers of them glistening and suspended mid-air seemingly defying the laws of gravity and physics.

Through my sleepless delirium suddenly I was focused on them to the exclusion of all else. What made them float? Was it the fact that they were weightless? Was it a wind draft I could barely discern? Or perhaps something else? I shook the curtain in my first of what would become several hundred experiments. Many more of these particles were released. I shook again and again as many more emerged until the shaft of sunlight was a glistening column of particles that had somehow escaped my previous cleaning efforts. What was happening here? I was transfixed. Yet strangely hopeful.

My focus had now shifted diametrically from hopeless frustration to irrepressible determination. I was onto something here. I had to discover more and now I knew where to look. Well metaphorically speaking at least.

healthy-home-non-toxic-products

Discovery of the dust-drop effect

It was dust. But the dust in question was so tiny that under normal conditions we can’t see it with the naked human eye. It’s the aforementioned dust you can sometimes discern dancing in a bright narrow sunlight shaft. I needed to know all there was to know about dust and in particular how to get rid of it. To understand that I needed to know why it floats, how to stop it and how to capture it. What I discovered was to me truly perplexing.

The very act of cleaning itself contributes to making the microscopic dust particles, ordinarily invisible to the naked human eye, float. They float around above us as we perform our cleaning activities in a kind of dust-fog that we are unaware of but one which has us chasing our tails as it eludes our most strident cleaning efforts.

We can never seem to get the house clean enough

By now I could well understand why we humans can’t see the dust without the benefit of a sunlight shaft. Further, I could investigate why it can stay suspended mid-air for up to five days. Then to realise how it resettles again in the hours and days following the cleaning. I saw why this creates a situation where we find ourselves cleaning again and again in a perpetual cycle of regular cleaning.

When the dust resettles and clumps together in the days following the clean, we get to see it as that thin layer of dust that settles on open surfaces. So, we clean again, again and again and we’re getting nowhere. The worst part with this traditional cleaning approach is we never get to feel like our house is really pristinely clean with healthy fresh indoor air quality as we and our beloved families so deserve.

It seems that most cleaning activities are simply recirculating the same fine particle dust that stays infernally stuck in our homes. Dust is so light that even the most minuscule wind draft can send it airborne. Incredibly, it is also susceptible to the scientific phenomenon of static electricity which energises the particle with a positive charge when disturbed by motion which further exacerbates this floating dust quagmire. The solution after many long contemplations is as simple as all the great answers to life’s complex questions. We simply need to introduce mother nature’s wisdom into the equation ~ enter negative ions.

Aha – Negative ions!

With the help of an ioniser and a scientific and sequential approach to cleaning that accepts and works with the laws of how dust behaves we can introduce negative ions into the home to negate the positive static charge of the dust particles so that they begin to settle on the open surfaces. Then with microfibre cloths and a powerful HEPA filter vacuum cleaner, we can over time remove the vast majority of these particles down to a microscopic size of 30 microns. 30 microns is 1/30th the circumference of a human hair.

Not only did I discover the secret to why dust floats and how to solve the riddle I was also relieved to discover that those things I was paranoid about in the world that could harm my child were actually good for her in small doses as nature intended. That germs and environmental impurities had helped mankind develop resistance and immunity in a microscopic arms race since time immemorial.

I was looking for dust and, in the end, rediscovered something much more important. I could finally see things clearly and felt in my heart that this entire situation was actually a divine gift to my new baby and that miraculously she had been innately given everything she needs to thrive on this magnificent planet. That in fact my child’s exposure to germs and impurities caused her body to develop a strong microbiome; a little army ready to do war on those invasive little invaders of her future.

The miracles of the microscopic

Instead of fearing the tiny things I could not see I was transformed into a father that saw miracles everywhere in the microscopic world of those things I could not see. That this paradox was just so beautiful. I was so excited by the world of the microscopic and the cleaning solutions that I had discovered that I began to pivot my career in the direction of helping other families discover these secrets and to help them get their homes healthy for themselves and their families. We get so many calls from new mums and dads and I relish helping them get the house ready for their baby. I so love helping these families to rejuvenate their zest for life as had happened to me.

Now I run a cleaning company www.1800cleaner.com.au in Sydney Australia that has completed over 40,000 cleans and helps hundreds of families each week enjoy dust-free living.

My previous life as an advertising copywriter gave me the skill to research a subject in depth and to apply creativity to further develop that knowledge with symbolism and imagery and what I settled upon was this: I did not need to worry about my child once she entered the world. I just needed to do what came naturally to me; to feed her, to clothe her, to shelter her and provide for her material needs. Most important of all I just needed to love her which is the most natural act of a father for his daughter in the world. To love his baby girl. The best news was that mother nature has got her back. The microscopic things of this world that she will encounter will make her stronger and we can all relax and enjoy our lives together.

We all deserve to live dust-free

Now my little girl is all grown up and about to turn 16 and her gift in turn to me is the manifestation of a career that has me bounding out of bed with excitement every morning. She is a magnificent human and the most gifted person I know and it is the inevitable adversities of her life thus far that have caused the resistance required to create the resilience that makes her so special and ready to take on the world. Dust and all.

Builder’s cleaning – The seven secret steps to success

Michael Sweet | 1800 CLEANER

As a cleaning company working on some of Sydney’s most expensive real estate, we never get used to seeing these prestigious multi-million-dollar properties handed over to their owners full of hidden dust post “builder’s clean”. On day one, the place may well look good after having a surface, builder’s clean. Yet, when the family moves in, and all that hidden dust “leaks out,” we find that it hangs around seemingly forever. Literally.

With human beings, out of sight is generally out of mind. This is particularly true of fine particle dust. Dust is so tiny that the human eye cannot detect it under normal conditions. We’re talking nanoparticles here that can be seen en-masse when they resettle and gather on open surfaces. Or when they drift past a shaft of sunlight, and we see them twinkling temporarily before “disappearing” into the darkness.

“Where does all this dust come from?”

When we clean, we disturb these fine dust particles and send them airborne. Once airborne, they can stay suspended for up to five days. Then they again return to earth to be bothered and recirculated all over again the next time we clean. Even a gust of wind from an open window or opening of a door disturbs them. It feels like we are constantly cleaning. Many people ascribe the dust as new dust coming from outside their home environment every week. We estimate that up to 95% of the dust found in the home is the same old dust being recirculated. In our view, only 5% or so is new dust either coming in from outside or being created by the residents and their pets.

With a new build, an excessive amount of excessively fine dust is created by the building process itself. The sanding and joinery, painting, formwork, concreting and cutting contribute to the creation of an immense amount of immensely small particle dust. Unfortunately, many construction workers are unaware of the dangers they face in their workplaces regarding dust, specially silicosis dust. Those who develop symptoms may receive financial compensation from a silicosis lawsuit.

This microscopic dust is notoriously tricky to remove as it floats around with traditional cleaning methods. It will “leak out” for years to come, frustrating future cleaning efforts as a result. So getting the builder’s clean right is a must.

kitchen-dust-free-post-renovation

An excessive amount of excessively fine dust is created by the building process itself

The seven secrets to evicting fine particle dust – post builder’s clean.

  • Step One– The first thing to do is understand how this dust behaves and therefore seal off the whole area. No open windows or doors; close everything off so the dust can settle. No through traffic. Give the dust time to settle before step two. This could take days unless you have specialised equipment.
  • Step Two– Now you have control over the environment and have given the dust a chance to settle. So now you need to collect as much dust as possible on this first pass. If you don’t, you’ll need patience as dust disturbed actually floats around for up to 5 days. Get a moist microfibre cloth, wipe down every available surface in the place, and rinse and repeat.
  • Step Three– Make sure your vacuum cleaner has a HEPA filter to capture particles down to 30 microns in size at least. A cheaper vacuum without the HEPA filter will fully redistribute the fine dust into the air with static electricity. It floats again for up to five days, requiring further patience!
Wardrobe-dust-free-house-reno

Pay attention to detail on that first clean and aim to get rid of the dust you cannot see with these special methods.

  • Step Four– Now that the pre-cleaning is complete, we might have captured the bulk of the dust, so the real fun begins. Presuming that you have done a great job getting at all the accumulated dust you can see, now we target the hidden dust you can’t see. We now bring wind flow into the equation. Get a nice flexible feather duster. Again, with the house sealed off, go crazy dusting everything with a wild swinging action. Especially get into the hidden corners like the top edges of cupboards and kitchen joinery. This will allow wind flow to get into the nooks and crannies and release the bulk of hidden dust lying dormant there.
  • Step Five– With the entire house sealed off and the whole place now thoroughly dusted, again give the dust time to resettle. If you have an ioniser, this should take around 4 hours or so. Without one, it can take a few days. Running HEPA-grade antibacterial air filters as well is optimal for a successful post-builder’s clean.
  • Step Six– Use a microfibre cloth to wipe every surface throughout the place you can and rotate these frequently. Microfibre cloths use static electricity actually to attract and capture fine particle dust. Once captured, replace these often as an abundance of dust in one cloth will again make its way back into the environment.
  • Step Seven– By this stage, all the remaining dust should be on the ground. Give it after another vacuum with your HEPA-grade Vacuum cleaner. Then you need to mop, and the best way is with a flat microfibre mop head. Keep changing the water and re-mopping until you see that the water stays clean. This means most of the dust is out of your environment and out of your future life as well! Awesome. Well done.

Now for healthier living and how to live dust-free

Let’s recap. The importance of minimising the large quantity of dust particles in our homes after a construction or renovation is vital. Out of sight is not out of the body. A surface clean might look nice on day one, but we will be dealing with that hidden dust for a long time if we don’t accept the reality of how hidden dust behaves and how to get rid of it.

For more information about this phenomenon, click here

The truth is that if we don’t get rid of all that hidden dust in your home on the first attempt, it will leak out into our clothes and into our lungs, and we will breathe it in over a long period of time without even knowing why we are feeling sub-optimal. It affects our sleep and well-being, and the importance of making the indoors environment pristine and dust-free is incalculable from a human perspective.

The great news is that even though this problem is confounding and challenging, science has provided a simple solution, and with care and effort, you can live dust-free and enjoy your home and life in unison as you so deserve.

Number One Sydney Cleaners

1800 CLEANER invents the solution to the “dust-drop” effect

Live dust-free with 1800 CLEANER.

1800 CLEANER is a premium-quality cleaning company specialising in removing fine particle dust. Over the thirty-five years that we have been working in the business, we have refined our cleaning practices to the finest detail. We guarantee the removal of up to 97% of all household dust down to a microscopic size of 30 microns. This fact may not initially seem impressive, but when you consider that traditional cleaning methods aggravate dust and lead to what’s known as the “dust-drop” effect, where fine dust floats during and resettles again after traditional cleaning efforts are over; then you’ll begin to see why 1800 CLEANER is markedly different from conventional cleaning companies.

Why and how traditional cleaning aggravates dust.

Traditional cleaning methods tend to move fine dust around as the microscopic particles, pollens, tiny airborne contaminants, irritants, and impurities float when disturbed by; wind and through-drafts; dusting; wiping; or even simply walking around the house due to static electricity. Ironically even vacuum cleaners can cause these particles to flow into the air through their exhaust system. These contaminants can stay suspended in the air for up to five days. This makes it practically impossible to remove this dust with traditional cleaning methods. This ancient approach to cleaning produces what we have coined as the “dust-drop” effect.

What exactly is the “dust-drop” effect?

Great question. The static electricity and positive ionic charge created when you dust and clean cause these microscopic particles to float into the air, repelling one another. The dust then resettles again in the hours and days after the cleaning is completed, which is why so many cleaning companies can’t get on top of the dust despite regular cleaning. Incredibly, some cheap vacuum cleaners redistribute the particles they temporarily capture through the exhaust system, causing dust to resettle, especially on top of cupboards, ceiling fans, vents and blinds and under and behind furniture and clutter. This dust then “leaks out” again over time, frustrating future cleaning efforts.

1800 CLEANER have and is the solution.

1800 CLEANER uses a scientific method and system in conjunction with an extensive cleaning approach, synchronising with negative ionisers and HEPA Air Filters with every clean to specifically and dramatically reduce the “dust-drop” effect. The results are impressive, both visually and sensually. These machines run continuously alongside human effort, which causes the dust to cling and drop in combination with our cleaning methodology, which draws dust into the filters, trapping the dust whilst purifying the air. 1800 CLEANER also uses a powerful HEPA vacuum to vacuum all floors, stairs, carpets and under beds and furniture to ensure the microscopic dust, once fallen, stays captured.

Living dust-free starts with a 21-Point or a Mini-Spring clean.

A 21-Point or Mini-Spring clean is a crucial starting point for dust-free living. The 1800 CLEANER team are expert in deploying our scientific system. Our method effectively removes dust and allergens from all surfaces in your home. This includes ceilings, walls, ledges, blinds, landing surfaces, skirting boards, vents, fans and windowsills. We move your furniture to do the most thorough job conceivable, removing as much hidden dust as possible. Cutting corners and not doing an outstanding job every time is abhorrent to us. Our trained cleaners spend an entire day conducting the spring clean, intensively cleaning your home to the finest detail.
The first step is always the annual Spring-Clean. After that, a fortnightly clean using 1800 CLEANER produces a superior result than weekly cleaning with traditional methods can achieve. This system saves money on your annual cleaning costs. It also achieves a superior dust-free result, saving time and heartache, not to mention the innumerable health and energetic benefits that result.

How 1800 CLEANER supports new mothers to reduce stress

How 1800 CLEANER supports new mothers to reduce stress.

There are multiple stresses associated with becoming a new mother. Most women who have had a child will tell you two things;

  • Nothing can prepare you for the depth of love you feel for your baby and
  • Nothing can prepare you for the changes and challenges of having a baby.

Adapting to the changes in all aspects of life can be difficult and, for some, seemingly insurmountable. Most new mothers feel stressed and, at times, completely overwhelmed by the competing demands of motherhood.

What’s common among new mothers is the stress of keeping up with the domestic chores and attending to the baby’s needs. The ease of shopping, washing and cleaning before the baby came along seems like a distant memory and, for many, a luxury.

Simply getting out of our pyjamas and drinking a cup of tea whilst it’s still hot can seem like a triumph. If we get a window of opportunity, we tend to do tasks in a mad rush, body tense and hard. Underlying is the fear that our baby will wake at any minute and interrupt that one chore we had set ourselves to complete for the day.

1800 CLEANER offers real and practical support.

1800 CLEANER works hard to provide you with a regular cleaner, someone that you can build a trusting relationship with. Someone who will get to know your home and how best to clean it and support you and your family. When building our team, we hand-pick people who are not only honest, reliable and hardworking. We also painstakingly seek people who are naturally caring and considerate.

1800 CLEANER have impeccably high standards; all of our cleaners undergo a thorough and detailed four-week training period. This ensures that they are skilled in implementing the cleaning methods that 1800 CLEANER have refined over the last thirty years. Because of our exclusive cleaning methods, 1800 CLEANER are undoubtedly the leader in the field. We are the experts at dust-free living. This ensures your house stays cleaner for longer between visits from your cleaner, which is incredibly supportive.

Why traditional methods of cleaning don’t work.

The problem with traditional cleaning methods is that they aggravate fine dust, causing it to become airborne. Dusting, wiping and even vacuuming can cause these microscopic particles, pollens and tiny airborne contaminants, irritants and impurities to float and stay suspended in the air for up to five days, making it practically impossible to remove them with traditional cleaning methods.

1800 CLEANER has developed a solution.

Contact 1800 CLEANER

Our founder, Michael Sweet, is fanatical about dust.

As a result, Michael has developed a system of cleaning that eradicates 97% of all household dust down to a microscopic size. 1800 CLEANER uses an ioniser and HEPA-grade filters with every clean that we do. Once the dust settles and has been drawn into the filters, it can be successfully removed. Dust contains many nasty components, e.g., dust mites and their faeces, decomposing insects, bits of food, plastic and soil, mould fragments, garden soil, road and vehicle exhaust dust, dead skin cells etc. which is why it’s easy to see how reducing the amount of dust in your home also reduces the spread of germs and therefore the likelihood of illness and infections.

How it happens and how we support new mothers

Our customers start with a 21-Point Spring clean or a Mini-Spring clean; these intensive cleans set the foundation for our fortnightly 12-Point Regular clean. One of the benefits of the 12-Point Regular clean is that for a minimal fee, you can add specific jobs to the 12 points of cleaning, e.g., cleaning out the fridge, cleaning the stove, washing the fly screens etc., basically all of those jobs that it’s simply impossible to find time for. These get added as points 13, 14 etc. So, you are tailoring your job sheet to your precise ongoing needs.

Our living environment has a huge effect on how we feel. Living in a clean and orderly home reduces stress and anxiety; it supports us to feel deeply settled. Babies are super sensitive to the feelings of those around them, especially their primary attachment figure, mum. If we as mothers can feel settled in ourselves, this is a massive step towards supporting our babies to feel settled too.

Supporting parents to provide a healthy home for their families

As a parent, you’re naturally on the lookout for ways to care for and protect your family. Have you ever considered the effect of dust on those you love? As experts at supporting parents in their homes, this article is for you.

What is exactly dust?

Dust can vary enormously depending on location and household specifics, but here are a few things that are commonly found in dust –

  • Trace Metals
  • Microplastics from clothes, packaging, carpets and furniture
  • Dead skin cells (20%-50%)
  • Hair (human and animal)
  • Decomposing insects, bits of food, plastic and soil
  • Mould fragments
  • Garden soil, road dust and vehicle exhaust dust
  • Dust Mites, their faeces and other similar contaminants

Chemicals used in household products, pesticides and clothing and furniture also combine with dust

The effect of dust on children and babies

Once you know what dust is, it’s easy to see how it can affect the hygiene of your home and how it can contribute to the spread of germs and illnesses. Dust can be particularly harmful to children and babies as their immune systems are still developing. They naturally put their hands and other objects in their mouths. It takes a village to raise a child, and supporting parents to support the baby is key.

Breathing in fine particle dust can cause respiratory issues such as coughing, sneezing, and difficulty breathing, which in turn can aggravate asthma symptoms as well as other allergies.

Maintaining a dust-free home is essential for the health and well-being of families, but commonly used cleaning techniques are not enough. Read on to find out why.

Why do traditional cleaning methods contribute to dust?

Traditional cleaning methods tend to move fine dust around. Microscopic particles, pollens and tiny airborne contaminants, irritants and impurities have a tendency to float when disturbed either by wind and through-drafts, dusting and wiping or even simply walking around the house. Ironically even vacuum cleaning can send these particles into the air.

These microscopic particles can stay suspended in the air, eventually re-settling again hours or even days later. This is why so many cleaning companies simply can’t get on top of the dust despite regular cleaning.

The benefits of living dust-free.

The removal of fine dust from your home significantly improves the air quality in your home, which can have a dramatic effect on the physical health of your family. We can feel much brighter in ourselves, not just because the air that we’re breathing in is significantly improved but because living in a clean and well-maintained home can provide a sense of order and comfort. This, in turn, can help to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

In addition, removing dust can also help to improve the overall mood of families by creating a more inviting and welcoming living space. A clean and well-maintained home can make families feel more relaxed and at ease, providing a positive and supportive environment for them to live in.

Dust-free living starts with a 21-Point or Mini-Spring clean.

1800 CLEANER highly recommends having either a Mini-Spring Clean or a 21-Point Clean as a crucial starting point to living dust free. The 1800 CLEANER team is trained to effectively remove dust and allergens from all surfaces and hidden corners in the home. This includes ceilings, walls, ledges, blinds, landing surfaces, skirting boards, vents, fans and windowsills. We use advanced cleaning equipment and techniques to capture and remove dust down to 30 microns in size. This leaves homes looking and feeling cleaner and fresher. And vitally, easier to keep clean and requiring less cleaning, less often.

Our trained cleaners are experts at supporting parents to get their homes dust-free. We spend a full day with the Mini-Spring clean or 21-Point Spring clean, intensively cleaning your home to the finest detail. We have a HEPA air filter running continuously, which draws the dust into its filters, thereby trapping the dust whilst purifying the air in your home. 1800 CLEANER also uses a HEPA-vacuum to vacuum all floors, stairs, carpets and under beds and furniture. By applying the cleaning methods that we’ve refined over 30 years, we’re able to eradicate 97% of all household dust – that in itself is pretty amazing!

Dust-free living – maintained.

Once the dust has been removed from your home, then it’s easier for you to maintain a dust-free environment. However, by committing to our 12-Point Clean fortnightly, you’ll ensure that the pristine dust-free environment that you now live in is maintained.

Knowing that 1800 CLEANER is taking care of cleaning your home gives you peace of mind. Relax knowing that the health of your home is in the hands of the dust-free living experts.

Mini Spring Clean Sydney Home

How hiring a house cleaner is imperative for living an active Sydney lifestyle

Happycleaningteam

Happy 1800 CLEANER team

Living the dream in Sydney can be a juggling act. There’s so much going on, and only so many hours in the day to get things done. It has reached the point that the real wealth in this life and this city is free time. So how can a professional house cleaner save you time, energy and maybe even your marriage?

As the founder of one of Australia’s fastest-growing professional house-cleaning businesses, I’ve seen the innards of a lot of Sydney’s households. It is common to want to project an image of perfection onto the outside world.  We can see this so patently with people’s social media profiles. Dig a little below the surface, and it’s easy to see that we are all imperfect humans. This ideal of having it all is unrealistic as, in my experience, life is a series of choices. And whilst few choices are purely binary, each choice subscribes to the law of cause and effect.

Generally, some people focus on making their career the priority; for others, it’s their family; some love to party and others focus on travel. Some focus on exercise, and others find a good time on the couch. In all the thousands of homes I’ve visited, I’ve yet to find the person who has it all. And I doubt I ever will. Perhaps it’s an impossible dream. A mirage in the distant future that can never quite materialise. For once we think we’ve arrived at the place where the promised land of plenty looked like it should be; again, it has moved.

Perhaps the absolute priority is internal peace; some wise sage must have once said this requires finding balance.

We get to see the Sydney social experiment in action, and some of our customers are the kindest and most decent people you could ever hope to meet. These are the ones who have found a work/life balance and have a calm spirit that does not rush or impose. These people are interesting, and I have observed a pattern among them. Their work and life are in balance towards the end goal of facilitating their human relationships.

I used to think that money was the key when I was younger. I devoted myself towards that end and achieved a lot. But the cost was too great, and I’ve managed to reconsider my values and goals accordingly. Indeed, my thinking back then was that if you made enough money to retire early, you could make up lost ground with relationships later. That was a mistake. Now when I look around at society, I can see that we have been conditioned to work hard for our entire lives. The enticement being for some dream of a wonderful retirement that doesn’t always eventuate – the carrot and the donkey. It’s not about getting to the final destination through gritted teeth but about enjoying the ongoing journey.

Now, I finally understand the vital importance of human connection.

Cleaning Technology for Dust Removal

So, what’s this got to do with cleaning? Well, quite a lot, actually. On the first visit to a customer’s home, I sometimes notice that there can be a strange and uncomfortable energy in some households when we first enter. This can often correlate with overt levels of clutter, high levels of thick dust and strangely filthy air conditioning filters. It’s like the neglected, hidden corners are emblematic of the hidden deeper things not attended to in the family’s home life. It’s a self-fulfilling cycle. The air quality is often lower, and the energy levels are heavier. This can create a downward spiral. And I love to arrest it.

When a family shifts its focus towards getting help with the cleaning, several things start to happen both in the temporal and energetic realms. Getting help with the cleaning is, in fact, a vital act of self-love and the first step in the right direction.
The early stages of the relationship between a cleaner and their client can turn things around and begin an upwards spiral. The air quality in the home improves, the energy levels lighten, clutter starts to reduce, and the feeling of returning home becomes one of entering your serene sanctuary. More quality time results and getting present with loved ones, and the true priorities in life become easier to achieve. The frustration with perpetually cleaning your home disappears, and a renewed appreciation for life and love returns.

I have a good mate, one of Sydney’s most promising bachelors. Like many of us, he has endured the heartache of divorce. When we first went to clean his home, it was an absolute shambles. I have seen a link between cluttered dusty homes and depression, and looking into his bedroom told me all I needed to know. It was a mess. I called my assistant into the room, a young Spanish lady. I explained to her that this was our opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. Today our job was not just to clean for the customer but, most notably, to care for the person. In this case, my beautiful friend.

Usually, when I train new people, I explain the importance of caring. It leaves behind energy and is felt. It can be healing. She got it straight away and accurately predicted that he would become so houseproud that he would start to fold his towels, and she was proven right.

To successfully live the dream in a busy city like Sydney, we must save time and create space wherever possible. We need the time to look around and to enjoy the fruits of our labours. And be present in all the things we love, including our good selves. How can we appreciate the beautiful things in our lives and savour those things yet to come? To view the world through a lens of abundance and bring that attitude of gratitude home with us, and to fill the place we live in with that same ethereal energy.
